Greetings from Newcastle.
I’m pleased to report that The Silver Bullet’s replacement is in place, and as it is a Meriva ‘Breeze’, the name Easy Breezy has emerged. That name, while certainly not dark, and lacking the same sort of horror connection as the previous vehicle’s name, is a reference to Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (if you get the reference, sound off in the comments/email reply). I hope the car doesn’t recreate the story of Easy Breezy, not for a long time, at least.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve enjoyed adding to the Notes From The Dark Chapter, my new series of posts here on Substack to share with you the lore I’ve developed around my series The Victorian Vampire Chronicles. While I’ll still continue to deliver the occasional traditional ‘newsletter’ type message (like this one), and the popular Sunday Shuffles, I hope you’ll enjoy more fiction-based content as it’s likely my fiction that brought you here in the first place.
📗 Limited Edition Paperbacks
A huge thank you to everyone who signed up for for notifications on my latest Kickstarter campaign. You contributed to my most successful opening 24 hours on my crowdfunding campaigns to date!
This campaign is to launch A Christmas Blessing, arriving in paperback format for the first time (although an older version of this story was included in The Cabinet of Doctor Blessing, years ago, this is the updated text). Limited to 100 signed, hand-numbered copies, this edition features the image-only cover style that marks out these special versions of my books.

🖋️ Work in Progress
Admittedly, recent events slowed down the progress on the new story quite a bit. I’ve experienced some higher levels of stress with the accident and some developments at work, so haven’t always been at my most creative at the end of each day. But I’ve been patient and tried to just tease out the lines. Working on the Notes From The Dark Chapter posts has helped - little bite-sized bursts of creativity to keep my hand in.
The current story, which I’m calling The Blood Caller, is gathering momentum. I’ve been pretty happy with how some scenes have rolled out, while there are others I’ll need to rework more significantly, later. That’s good though, because the story’s own voice seems to gather in strength as I go, and it’s like the story itself insists the earlier stuff gets revisited and strengthened too.
I’m looking forward to sharing the story here in instalments in the coming months.
The last rounds of proofing will start soon on In Quiet Courts, and I’ll be preparing the files, ready for launch this year - and of course Founding Members will receive a copy of the limited edition paperback when it’s ready to go.
